Dimapur: Zunheboto district under the National Oral Health Programme (NOHP) observed ‘World Oral Health Day’ at Government High School at South Point East in Zunheboto town on March 20 on the theme “Be proud of your mouth.”
Speaking on the occasion, the guest of honour and senior education officer (SDEO) of Zunheboto, Y Kitoli Sumi, pointed out that oral health is often neglected and given least importance. She, however, reminded that one cannot deny the positive impact it has on one’s well-being and quality of life, stated an update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO) of Zunheboto.
She further expressed gratitude to the Health department for organising the programme to impart and educate the students on oral hygiene in collaboration with the educational institutions.
Speaking on the theme, Dr. K Rosy, senior dental surgeon at District Hospital, Zunheboto, stated that NOHP provides an ideal platform to raise awareness, encourage commitments and prompt action to promote good oral health.
Report stated that activities such as awareness sessions, quiz competitions have marked the World Oral Health Day programme. It added that the winners were awarded with cash prizes and certificates.
Altogether, seven government schools have participated in the competition. It added that toothbrush, toothpaste and IEC materials were distributed to the participants.
In another programme, the Dimapur unit of the Indian Dental Association Nagaland State Branch (IDANSB) visited various schools and motivated the students on the importance of oral health with special emphasis to good oral hygiene.
The unit informed that it received positive response from the students as well as the faculty.
