Open volleyball tournament begins

Kohima, Nov. 22 (EMN): The 6th edition of the Kohima district open volleyball tournament got underway at Kohima local ground on November 22. A total of 21 teams including both men and women categories under Kohima district are taking part in the tournament. The event is being organised by the Kohima District Volleyball Association (KDVA) on the theme “Transcending through sports.”

Defending champions Phesama youth organisation (PYO) won two matches in the day against Khwuno Spikers Khonoma and Wagers Club from Perizie colony, Kohima, to get six points.

While last year’s runners-up Zenith Club, Kezo town won the first match against Shurho Mountain Club, Kigwema, but lost to Unified Sporting Club, Kiruphema, in the second match.

Kiruphema youth organisation; United Sporting Club, Kiruphema; Kenozou youth orgnisation including Phesama have won two matches each in men’s category.

While defending champions Elite Sisters Club, Sepfuzou colony Kohima and runners-up Tiema Khe Kidima have won two matches played on Thursday in women’s category.

Earlier speaking on the occasion, special guest and administrator of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), Kovi Meyase, appreciated the efforts of the organisers for providing platform for the young players to train and display their skills.

Encouraging the sportspersons, Meyase advised the sportspersons to be sincere and be committed in their duty. He challenged the players to display their skills with discipline and move forward to reach their goals.

Delivering the welcome address, KDVA president Visasielie Suohu and Technical director Mhalevilie Kere administered oath to the participating teams.

The champions of both the categories will receive a cash prize of INR 35,000 while the runners- up will get INR 25,000. The semi finalists will receive INR 5000 each. The event will conclude on November 26.
