“OORJA CAPF” U-19 football talent hunt tournament

Dimapur, April 25 (EMN): Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) will be organising “OORJA CAPF U-19” football talent hunt tournament, 2017 which is an initiative of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for the state of Nagaland as a run up to the FIFA U-17 World Cup, slated for October this year.
A press note from the AR said the Prime Minister has planned to conduct a nationwide Football Tournament called the “OORJA – CAPFs Youth Under-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament 2017.
The objective of the tournament is to give opportunity to every child of the country to play the game of football. A legacy programme of FIFA U-17 World Cup “Mission XI Million” has been initiated as a school contact initiative, which leading up to the U-17 World Cup in October will evolve into India’s biggest sport activity, maintained the press note.
Mission XI Million has been planned to take the beautiful game of football to at least 11 million boys and girls around the country. The tournament is being conducted in three different phases.
The 1st Phase of the tournament will be conducted at the state capitals from May 1 to 8. Subsequently the 2nd Phase for the Northeast States will be conducted in Shillong from June 8 to 25 and the 3rd Phase in Delhi from July 8 to 25.
Keeping up the mission of the Prime Minister, the Assam Rifles is conducting the talent hunt tournament for both girls and boys in Nagaland. A ten days long tournament, which carries a prize money of Rs 2.5 Lakhs, will feature about 32 matches. The tournament will commence with the curtain raiser programme being organised on April 29 at Jotsoma Auditorium and the tournament starts from May 1.
The matches will be played on two grounds, Kohima local ground and IG Stadium ground and will culminate with the final match of girl’s team on May 8. Boy’s team participating in the tournament are State Boys Hostel, KV Rangapahar, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, SAI Boys Team, Christ King Higher Secondary School, KV Kohima, State Sports Academy and KV Dimapur. Girls’ team include Christ King Higher Secondary School, KV Dimapur, Bayavu Girls Higher Secondary School, Sweet Poison Cub, Young Girls Club, Govt High School, Soccer Damsels Club and Girls Sports Hostel.
The Nagaland State Sports Department led by Parliamentary Secretary Youth Resources and Sports and Nagaland Football Federation led by its President are providing full support to make this event a success. Assam Rifles strongly believe that this endeavour will certainly go a long way in promoting the game of football in the state.
