Dimapur, July 8 (EMN): The Nagaland Zeliang Peoples’ Organisation (NZPO) has urged the state government to evict what it termed as ‘all illegal settlers falling within the Zeliang ancestral land under Peren district.’

NZPO’s statement through its media cell has expressed displeasure with the ‘inactivity’ of the state government despite repeated memorandums and letters from NZPO and CSOs of Peren district. It claimed that Zeliang people since time immemorial shares its boundary only with the Chakroma/ Chakro Angami.

Stating that the customary permission given to Kiyevi villagers to settle at the land allotted by Lamhai Dungki village of Peren district stands abrogated vide letter dated April 5, it urged the government to take necessary steps to evict all the illegal settlers/villages which falls within the Zeliang ancestral land under Peren district.

It also alleged that illegal villages have mushroomed in the vicinity of Lamhainamdi which belongs to Lamhai Dungki village despite the status quo order issued by the government of Nagaland.

“This bias and callous attitude of the government is unacceptable and intolerable,” the statement read.

It further cautioned that the organisation would not be held responsible in the event of any untoward incidents if the government fails to evict the illegal settlers.
