Dimapur, Nov. 24(EMN): Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD), which was conceptualised in 1967 with the motto “Unite and progress” to uphold the Naga women’s tradition and identity in the midst of other people with their firm objective to protect, support each other from alien forces and to safeguard children and women’s right, commemorated its 50 years anniversary on November 24. The golden jubilee celebration was commemorated at Dimapur District Sports Complex (DDSC) on the theme “The year of liberty.”

Additional secretary of Rural Development and Mission Director of Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission who was also the chief guest Athel O Lotha said the noble aspiration of bringing together women from all walks of life irrespective of tribes under one umbrella and standing firm on the objective “Unite and progress” was notable adding the women have made impacts and conquered many obstacles and limitation over the decade.

“Amongst several exploits of the organisation, what is more encouraging is that as an apex women organisation of Dimapur, NWHD unit has been honoured as councillor to Naga Council with voting rights and partner NGO to government of Nagaland towards women empowerment,” commended Lotha.

She said no appreciable development could be made either at the local, national or international platform without recognising women as key players. She said empowering women to participate fully in socio-economic life across all sectors is essential to building cohesive and stronger economies, achieve development and sustainability.

Stating that millions men and women around the world now support the call for gender equality, she said there is much to be done especially in developing state like Nagaland.

“As NWHD celebrates golden jubilee, take particular pride that your commitment towards empowerment and uplift of women and children are stronger than ever. And in the true spirit of the theme ‘the year of liberty,’ may this occasion serve as an opportunity to strengthen the organisation as one powerful mother apex with a renewed commitment to join efforts with all stakeholders and work in empowering and liberating women and children to participate in building stronger Naga society,” she implored.

Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) chairman Rev. Dr. Wati Aier in his message reminded the gathering that when FNR was conceptualised ten years back women were the force behind FNR.

“Men and women, if we are not together, we will not progress. We are dictated by the past and are enslaved especially in our cultural practise”, pointed out the Reverend.

Asserting that ‘women do better than men’ the Reverend challenged the men folk to accept that women are better and to learn from this celebration while appreciating the 50 years they have travelled.

Rainbow Academy administrator Dr. Adela Mero called on the women folk to castaway their brokenness entangled with complex worries and transform it with beauty.

Dr. Mero addressed that the society is deficient of love which is an integral part for a society to celebrate success. She reminded the women community ‘the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world’ call upon them to be careful on how they rock the cradle as they are the one who gives birth to world leaders.
