NWA announces raffle draw for wrestling prizes

Dimapur, Oct. 4 (EMN): The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) has launched raffle draw for wrestling prizes on October 2 last.
It was formally launched by Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) vice president Neikhrolo Khalo during the annual get together of the NWA at Kisama.
The amount generated from raffle draw will be used for wrestling prizes in the forthcoming NWA tournament 2018 and also for units wrestling meet of the Angami Sports Association, Chakhesang Wrestling Association and Zeliang Wrestling Association.
The total cash prizes for NWA tournament 2018 has been set at Rs. 7.60 lakh with Rs. 3 lakh for champion, Rs. 2 lakh for 2nd, Rs. 1 lakh for third and Rs. 80,000 for 4th place and Rs. 20,000 each for quarter finalists.
The NWA has also made uniform prize money for unit wrestling tournament of ASA, CWA and ZWA. Rs. 1.50 lakh for Champion, Rs. 1 lakh- 2nd, Rs. 70,000- third and Rs. 50,000 for 4th place. Quarter finalists will get Rs. 10,000 each.
The meeting resolved to hold the 26th NWA tournament 2018 by March 8-9 tentatively. By 2018, free style wrestling will be played on the first day and Naga style on the next day.
The meeting also decided to have only five category of free style from 2018 onwards. 57 kgs, 65 kg, 74 kg, 86 kg and 97 kg for men and 50 kg, 55 kg, 59 kg, 65 kg and 72 kg for women.
The meeting resolved that any medal winner of the free style who fails to represent the state at the national level will be debarred from participation in one tournament of NWA.
The meeting also felicitated the six Naga wrestlers for their successful participation at the 5th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games 2017 held at Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
Keduovilie Zumu from Tuophema village won bronze medal in Kazakh Kuresh style belt wrestling under 90kg category. Zumu alongwith 5 other Naga wrestlers – Surhoneyi Soho, Visevo Zashumo, Vechita Khesoh, Menuosetuo Yiese and Venuzo Dawhuo were part of the Indian belt wrestling contingent that competed at the Ashgabat tournament.
The team was led by NWA president Neivikuolie Khatsu and general secretary Vekhozo Ringa as officials.
Khatsu informed that the referee refresher course will be held on October 19 while freshers course will take place on October 20.
