NVCO urges government to implement ‘Consumers Protection Act 2019’

Dimapur, Dec. 27 (EMN): Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has renewed its appealed to the stage government to implement the Consumers Protection Act, 2019 as a New Year gift to the citizens of the state.

NVCO made this appealed on the occasion of ‘National Consumer Rights Day,’ which is observed on December 24 every year. The ‘National Consumer Rights Day’ is observed to highlight the importance of consumers’ movement and the need to make the consumers more aware of their rights and responsibilities, particularly in the rural areas, an update from NVCO stated.

On the occasion, NVCO urged the state government to implement/ fulfilled the basic requirement as per the Consumers Protection Act, 2019. It appealed to implement the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, as it has entirely replaced the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.

NVCO also appealed to provide a building for the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission with proper court room and offices. It claimed that the State Commission now does not have any office and temporarily functioning at Circuit House with all inconveniences not only to the president and its learned members and office staff but also to the advocates. 

Speaking on the occasion, NVCO president, Kezhokhoto Savi, stated that the responsibility of learning consumer rights and duties rest with everyone and more particularly with the government agencies to play a vital role for promoting welfare of consumers and protection of their rights.

In his message, Savi called upon the consumers to wake up saying, “A vigilant consumer is an asset to the nation.”

NVCO reminded the public not to hesitate to call the Nagaland State Consumer Helpline Toll Free No. 1800-345-3701 or approach the consumer disputes redressal commissions to assert their rights, whenever necessary. It mentioned that only alert consumers could protect themselves and the society from the exploitation of trade and industry.
