Dimapur, March 29

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organization (NVCO) said that it has been receiving complaints against butchers such as unfair means in weighing, charging above KMC rates, selling previous day left over smelling meat, not allowing consumers to choose their choice of meat portion, etc particularly at butcher shop at Lower Chandmari A.G Bridge, Kohima. In the follow action of the verbal complaints, the president of NVCO, Kezhokhoto Savi went to verify the alleged butcher shop situated at A.G Bridge Lower Chandmari, Kohima on March 28 and found the pork were of previous day left over and even found the balance inaccurate.
The shop keeper identified himself and said that he did not have any idea about trade license stating that the house owner could be having the license at home.
The seller admitted that the meat were leftover of the previous day as they could sell all and try to justify the balance/palla by adding another stone portion covered with polytine bag.
The NVCO through its Press and Media Cell condemned the act of unfair means in dealing with the health of Kohima consumers and also informed every consumer to be more alert and check necessary things before buying even to the extent checking the balance before measurement.
For further queries, citizens have been requested to call Nagaland State Consumer Helpline through toll free No. 1800-345-3701 during office hours or visit the office situated at Old Assembly Secretariat (Ist floor of KMC office building) which is a joint venture of NVCO & dept. Of LMCP, Govt. of Nagaland. The NVCO has also appealed to Kohima district administration and KMC to conduct surprise check so as to avoid such unfair means of trade practices in the state capital.
