NVBDCP, USAID conduct training for insect collectors

DIMAPUR — A training session for insect collectors was organised by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) from July 2 to 3 at Hotel Acacia in Dimapur.

It was held in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-Nutrition and Infant Health Support in Technical and Humanitarian Assistance (NISHTHA), implemented by Jhpiego, a non-profit international organisation affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, according to a press release.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kavito Zhimomi, DPO-CD1, in his welcome address, appreciated the technical partner from NISHTHA and encouraged the participants to uphold sincerity in their respective postings.

Dr. R Chubala Aier, director and SPO (NVBDCP), presented on the role of entomology in vector-borne disease control and the job responsibilities of insect collectors. Dr. Antoly Swu, deputy CMO Dimapur, exhorted the participants on their role in the prevention and study of vector-borne disease patterns.

The resource persons for the event were technical experts from NISHTHA/Jhpiego, who highlighted the biology of mosquito vectors, vector bionomics, mosquito anatomy and identification, preparation and storage of adult mosquito samples, and larvae rearing.

Field visits were also conducted to identify mosquito larvae and perform adult surveillance in the Gopanala area and Medical Colony.
