DIMAPUR — The National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) team conducted monitoring and supervision activities in Mokokchung district at Chuchuyimlang Primary Health Centre, Unger Health and Wellness Centre, and Yisemyong Health and Wellness Centre on Tuesday.

During an interaction with the Chuchuyimlang village council, PH and training consultant Imsubenla reported that two cases of malaria had been detected in Mokokchung, specifically in Chuchuyimlang village, after a gap of five years, according to a press release.

She commended the village council members for their concern for the villagers’ well-being and requested their cooperation in conducting mass screenings when vector-borne diseases are detected.

Imsubenla further informed residents that suspected dengue cases can be tested at Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital in Mokokchung. She cautioned against Japanese encephalitis, which is commonly transmitted through pigs, advising residents not to sleep near pigsties.

MTS of NVBDCP Mokokchung, Alemjungba, stated that after detecting two cases of malaria in Chuchuyimlang, treatment had been administered to both patients, and follow-up measures would be taken.

Mokokchung zonal entomologist Khisen Jemu explained that the team visited the village following the malaria cases but did not find any malaria vectors. However, Jemu noted that the presence of malaria vectors cannot be ruled out, as they appear seasonally and are influenced by climatic conditions. She recommended conducting a year-round study to confirm the situation.

During the study, a secondary vector for dengue was identified. Jemu urged residents to keep their surroundings clean and eliminate stagnant water, while also requesting continued cooperation from the village council in the future.

The Chuchuyimlang village council members expressed appreciation for the long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) provided by NVBDCP, noting that they have been effective against mosquitoes.

They reported that the distribution of LLINs had been successfully completed and requested additional supplies. The council also expressed their willingness to collaborate with any department or neighbouring villages for the betterment of their community.

It was mentioned that finance consultant Ropfweve Koza, M&E consultant Ngangnenmongba Longkumer, and IEC/BCC consultant Wapangsungla Longkumer, along with district NVBDCP staff, conducted monitoring and supervision visits.
