Dimapur, July 20
The Ao Naga of Nuton Bosti in Dimapur are getting dirty–in a clean and noble way. With no proper garbage disposal system in place, local community group, the Dorians’ Society of Dimapur, has taken the pitch to initiate an ingenious and inexpensive method to disposing household waste in Ao khel of Notun Basti.
With support from the Ao Khel Council, the organization has introduced a rickshaw-driven garbage cart, which will go from house to house collecting refuse from households in the area.
“With a nominal payment of Rs. 50 a month, each household in the khel would be able to dispose waste without having to dump it in drains or on the roads. The waste collected would be then taken to a designated garbage disposal site,” a source informing on Monday, July 20.The Dorians Society said that around 200 households have enthusiastically responded to the initiative.
The rickshaw-cart will make the rounds on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and on Sunday. The program started on July 20.
The source informed that more carts would be added but depending on demand.
