NSF urges KAADC to call off eviction notice at Nagaland border
Dimapur, Jan. 25 (EMN): Naga Students’ Federation has beseeched the Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council to call off the notice for eviction drive at Borijan Mauza Lahorijan Block-3 area, bordering Nagaland.
In a statement to the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KAADC Tuliram Ronghang, NSF on Tuesday stated that 80% of the landowners at Balijan ‘C’ Khan Basti, near IV/LRC colony, Dimapur were Nagas who had “bought the lands and constructed their dwelling houses with GPF and pension money post their retirement.”
NSF said that Balijan ‘C’ Khan Basti was ‘one of the oldest villages’ bordering Nagaland and ‘is neither a reserved forest nor a disputed Government Land’.
“The residents freely exercise adult franchise and enjoy all welfare schemes like ration cards, job cards and also avail electricity provided by the state government. The residents of Balijan ‘C’ Khan Basti are law abiding and peace-loving citizens living under the administrative jurisdiction of Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council, Govt. of Assam,” it read.
It therefore urged KAADC to look into the matter and ensure that the residents are protected from the eviction drive “as any action to the contrary will render the residents homeless and throw them out on the streets thereby opening up avenues for social disorders and communal disharmony”.
The Federation also appealed to the KAADC ‘to ensure that the lives, properties and means of livelihood of the Nagas living on the border belt under its jurisdiction are protected through their active intervention.’
