THE Naga Students’ Federation has urged the government to first have a thorough deliberation in regard to Nagaland Special Development Zone (NSDZ) with respective Tribal Hohos, land owners and also apex civil societies, NGOs and even invite Naga intellectuals for the deliberation on the resolution adopted by it for consideration.
Apprising Chief Minister TR Zeliang about some pertinent issues confronting the Naga society at his official residence today, the NSF officials urged him for revival of Nagaland Pulp & Paper Corporation Ltd (NPPC) and to pursue the NPPC Ltd revival process at the earliest. They also apprised the CM of the NSF meeting with the Advisor to Department of Disinvestment (DoD) Kumar V Pratap at his official chamber in Delhi on June 5 in regard to the press statement given by the department on possible disinvestment in NPPC Ltd which was published in a local daily on May 29, 2014.
On the proposal given by Punjab-based Dhayan Chand Trust for establishing a private university in Nagaland by the name Aaron University, the Federation has requested the department concerned and the government not to take hasty decision rather thoroughly scrutinize and authenticate the Trust, Board of trustees and their experience in the field of education and more importantly the fulfillment of criteria laid down by the United Grants Commission (UGC).
In regard to the oil extraction in the State, the NSF has once again made its stand very clear that “Oil exploitation by the ONGC should not be repeated”. “Exploiting the entire resources in the name of oil extraction cannot be tolerated anymore,” it asserted.
The NSF also highlighted the breach of agreements made between Nagaland and Assam in regard to border issue and problems. It said while Nagaland has judiciously honoured the Interim Agreement, Assam government has rather taken undue advantage of the agreements to strengthen their state forces along the border. Therefore, the Federation urged the State government to either abrogate the standing Agreement or ensure that it is implemented in letter and spirit by both the sides.
This was stated in a release issued by NSF president Tongpang Ozukum and general secretary Esther Rhakho today.
