Dimapur, Dec. 11 (EMN): Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Sunday observed black day to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), called by the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO).
As per the directive issued by NESO, NSF observed the day ‘against the forceful imposition of the CAA’, an update from NSF media cell said.
It held a symbolic protest at by hoisting black flags at its headquarters and in front of various government offices.
“Despite the various exemptions made for the Northeastern region in the Act, the North East Students’ Organisation still feels that the act is anti-people and will strive towards ensuring that the act is not implemented,” it read.
It may be mentioned that on December 11, 2019, the Rajya Sabha approved the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, completing the legislative procedure for giving Indian citizenship to non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
The CAA seeks to provide Indian citizenship to Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsis entering India on or before December 31, 2014 from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan after five years of residence here.
