NSDMA sets up relief camp for landslide affected families

DIMAPUR — Following report of severe landslide and land sinking at Phinjang sector and NST ward in Tuensang district, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Tuensang, have set up a comprehensive relief camp on August 1 at C Khel in Tuensang village, youth hall and old church for the victims.

An update from NSDMA stated that the landslide has impacted 200 households till date, causing significant damage to infrastructure and disrupting normal lives.

It stated that a total of 64 people including 34 children and 35 adults from 11 families have registered to stay in the relief camp, adding more people are expected to register at the relief camp in the coming days.

Report stated that immediate need for shelter, food and medical assistance have been addressed through the setting up of relief camps. It added that the response has been organised effectively by adhering to the incident response system (IRS) to maximise efficiency and support.

It informed that relief operations are being done in close collaboration with the respective ward leaders to streamline and ensure no victim is left out. It added that further assessments and ongoing support are being closely monitored by the NSDMA and DDMA, Tuensang.

NSDMA also stated that a technical team has been dispatched to DDMA Tuensang for investigation in the landslide affected site and take stock of possible method of mitigation work.

Meanwhile basing on informed sources, it stated that almost all the areas where many families have been evacuated by landslide in other districts such as Mon, Zunheboto, Mokokchung, Kohima as well as Tuensang were not safe for human settlement because of the terrain and geological factors.

It informed that the state government is working hard to address the immediate need of the affected people and alleviate their difficulties.

NSDMA further advised the public to exercise abundant caution and not to settle in vulnerable areas as it would endanger human life and loss of lifetime savings properties.
