NSDMA observes International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, observed the International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) on October 7 at Capital Convention Hall, Kohima, with Advisor of NSDMA and NRE, Nyusietho Nyuthe as the special guest.

The theme for DRR Day 2024 was ‘Empowering the next generation for a resilient future,’ an update from NSDMA stated.

Joint CEO of NSDMA, Johnny Ruangmei delivered keynote address while Advisor NSDMA spoke on the importance and significance of DRR day.

More than 100 students from five colleges – Kohima Science College, Kohima College, Baptist College, St. Joseph’s College and Don Bosco College – participated in the programme.

The day was marked by various competitions including reel-making, debate and extempore.

In the debate competition held on the theme, ‘Is Nagaland adequately preparing for a resilient era?’ the opposition team comprising of students from all the five colleges emerged winners.

The best debater went to Kepozo Kapuh of St. Joseph’s College and the second position was won by Kuvelu Lohe of Kohima Science College.

In the extempore speech, Moe H Konyak of Kohima Science College and Anizo Krose of St. Joseph’s College, secured first and second positions, respectively.

In the reel-making, the first prize was won by Baptist College, the second went to Kohima College and the third Kohima Science College.

The inaugural session was chaired by Widunbiliu, APD, NSDMA, while Keren Rose, asst. manager, Media and PR, NSDMA proposed vote of thanks.
