Dimapur, July 8 (EMN): Union Territory-1 (UT-1) of the NSCN (IM) has strongly condemned what it termed as ‘unwarranted raid’ carried out allegedly by troops of 39 Assam Riffles at the private residence of its staff on July 7 at wee hour.
UT-1 secretary, Ghokuto Chishi, claimed that four staff were arrested without any rhyme, adding they were blindfolded and thrashed black and blue and meted with extreme physical torture during interrogation which was in contravention of the agreed ground rules.
The press statement also claimed that 39 Assam Riffles personnel provoked the staff by demanding to surrender arms and ammunitions immediately besides enquiring about details of the NSCN leaders and threatening to raid their private residences.
It alleged that 39 Assam Riffles personnel not only torture the staff but also snatched away some mobile phones worth Rs 50,000, extorted cash money to the tune of Rs 15,000, snatched wrist watch and did not spare even the cosmetic items.
Following the development, Steering Executive member, Kihoto Yeptho, held an emergency meeting with UT-I authorities wherein it warned that 39 Assam Riffles will be solely held responsible in the event of any eventuality.
