DIMAPUR — President of NSCN/GPRN (K) , General (retired) Niki Sumi, has attributed the root behind mushrooming of Naga political factions in Nagaland to the leaders pursuing individual interest instead of national issues.

Niki Sumi stated this during the 44th Naga Republic Day programme held at its designated camp in Suruhoto under Zunheboto district on Thursday.

“Leaders including me did not take into account of the national issues and interests, instead diverted to individual interest; even India joined the fry because of their political interest. However, the whole policy of division is not engineered by India, it was Naga’s self-engineering for personal interest which has led to the fragmentation and rise of many factions,” Niki said.

In this connection, the retired General asked the Naga people to ponder seriously on the advantages and disadvantages of forming many factions instead of barking from outside.

Niki also wondered why Naga tribe leaders cannot join hands and work together with Naga Hoho as well as the Naga Mothers’ Association but instead point their voice towards the undergrounds at the end.

“The Naga over-ground societies are making enmity among themselves but blamed the political parties,” he alleged adding, “looking into the scenario of the over ground disunity the formation of a fraction has become easy because of the fact that some will support them.”

In this connection, Niki appealed to the over-ground Nagas to unite and dictate the underground political parties.

He appealed to the Naga tribal leaders to join hands with Naga Hoho and NMA to solve the differences through dialogues and to come together as one.

He also lamented on shifting of inclination of Naga leaders in their political languages according to their near and dear one’s defection to other factions. In this context, he blamed the Naga over grounds of destroying the Naga society.

He also appealed to the Naga leaders, intellectuals and veterans to dwell not only on past sacrifices, deeds and experience but to be a guiding force for the younger generation and Naga political parties to take up measures and steps for the Naga political movement.

He further stated that NSCN/GPRN K (Niki) stand was to protect Naga ideology, principle and identity and would continue to protect Naga sovereignty and identity.

The Ato kilonser spoke on the topic “Unity and inclusivity.” He stated that NSCN/GPRN K (Niki) ideology is Naga unity first and Naga inclusiveness.

The celebration was attended by 18 Naga apex bodies including Naga Hoho, NMA, NSF and ENSA.

The Niki Sumi-led NSCN/GPRN also celebrated the Naga Republic Day at its CFSB office premises in Padumpukhuri, Dimapur. A press release issued by NSCN (Niki) through its MIP stated that the chief guest and kilonser of Chaplee ministry, Nikato Pilot Sumi, unfurled the Naga national flag, while Kughalu Yeptho exhorted the gathering.

The deputy kilonser, Kamsei Vaiphei enthralled the gathering with a song.

In another programme, Khango-led NSCN/GPRN also celebrated the Naga Republic Day at the Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB) office premises.
