NSBB organises workshop on ‘Access and Benefit Sharing’
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB) under the Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya (Nagaland) Project (FBMP), KfW funded project, conducted a state level workshop on ‘Access and Benefit Sharing’ (ABS) on August 13 and 14 at the Forest Office Complex, Kohima.
Dr. Suhas Nimbalkar, partner and consultant-IP and Regulatory Affairs at Eitimo Ventures LLP, Banguluru, a well-known expert in ABS, was the resource person, stated an update from NSBB.
It stated that Dr. Pankaj Prasad Raturi, HOD/BRD/DRDC, and CS Rana, scientist from Dabur India, were guests of the workshop for convergence and collaboration and Nand Kishor Agrawal, chief technical advisor, was the main host of the workshop.
Supongnukshi, chief conservator of forest (CCF) and project director of FBMP, in his welcome address, emphasised the significance of the Nagoya Protocol. He highlighted India’s commitment to the international agreement, which aims to ensure fair sharing of benefits from genetic resources and promote biodiversity conservation.
Report stated that the workshop accentuated the urgent need to implement ABS measures in Nagaland’s biodiversity-rich environment.
A total of 45 representatives from various departments, missions and institutions attended the workshop.
