The NPP has submitted a letter of support to the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance to form the next government in Nagaland.

The NDPP-BJP alliance, which comfortably crossed the magic mark by winning 37 seats in the 60-member assembly, is set to form the new government after the swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday.

When asked if the National People’s Party will be part of the ruling government, NPP Nagaland president Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema expressed hope that it will be so as the party is in the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), a political coalition formed by the BJP for the NE region which the NDPP is also a member, as well as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre.

He said the party had given as a letter of support to the NDPP-BJP alliance, it being part of NEDA. He added that its two MLAs deserted the party and joined the ruling government in the previous term but five of its candidates had won this time, defeating its two former legislators in the process.

The NPP state unit chief went on to inform that the party is not in talks with other parties as it wants to be in ‘neutral zone’ and maintain discipline.
