The National People’s Party (NPP), Nagaland State, kicked-off the election campaign of Tsungro Kithan, the party’s candidate from 40 Bhandari assembly constituency on February 13 at Khakuthato village, under Wokha district.
The poll campaign was led by NPP state president, Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sumi, state vice presidents Simon Yepthomi and Khehoto, state general secretary (organisation) Philip Lam, along with a host of other party executives including youth and women wing leaders, the party informed in an update.
The programme was attended by public leaders and civil society organisations from the constituency, which included more than 30 GBs and asst. GBs.
As part of the campaign, the NPP team along with the party executives of Wokha district also visited the nearby Champang oil field area which, despite its strategic importance, has been neglected by successive governments for a long period of time, “due to which despite the huge potential resource of petroleum the same has not been harnessed till date,” the party alleged.
During the programme, the president of state NPP and others discussed on the role of NPP in creating better and long-term opportunities for the people of not only Bhandari but also of the entire state, so that a more resolute and transparent governance can be given to the people, who have for a long time been reeling under the shadow of corruption and underdevelopment, it stated.
“During the visit to the constituency, it was also observed by the team from NPP that despite sharing an inter-state boundary with a more developed Assam State, the road connectivity of the area was totally poor and lacking,” it stated.
The constituency and its adjoining areas do not even have proper drinking water facilities, which is unfortunate and lamentable, the party added.
