Dimapur, May 10 (EMN): President of Naga People’s Front (NPF), Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu on Tuesday said that merger of the party with other political parties is “out of question” as it belongs to the entire Naga people.

However, he said other political parties merging with the NPF is most welcome.

Speaking at the consultative meeting of NPF Kohima division, the president also urged upon the leaders to stand firm on the party principle and not fall prey to ‘many hearsay to confuse the party leaders’, stated a press communiqué issued by NPF media cell.

On the recent defection of its 21 MLAs to Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), he said it could be a ‘blessing in disguise’ as the party has more time to work out on modalities for the betterment and future of the party.

Further, he stated that a true leader is one who stands by the principles of the party.

“True politics is to work for the people based on its principle, whereas, power and money monger politics is not true politics,” he said.

Liezietsu also said that NPF has faced good and bad times but “it is growing day by day” as it is deeply rooted to the Naga people.

Former MLA, Kropol Vitsu, who also spoke at the meeting, said that the recent defection of the NPF MLAs was not a cause for worry, while Central Senior Vice President Kruzakie Kelio called upon the Kohima division members to be fully prepared and come up with the best strategy for the six assembly seats in 2023 elections.

Central General Secretary, Guoneiu Sirie said that the regional NPF party is a ‘blessed party’ for the Western Angami Constituency. While describing the defection of its MLA was “disheartening”, he said leaders who hold the true principles of the party were still intact.

Sievotso Seyie, also the Central Secretary, maintained that NPF had faced different political waves but still surviving and would remain to do so, adding that in politics, many leaders will leave but many new capable leaders will join.

During the meeting, NPF Kohima division also resolved to uphold and support the leadership of Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, President of NPF and Leader of NPF Legislature Party Wing Kuzholuzo Nienu.

While congratulating Nienu on his appointment as Co-Chairman of the United Democratic Alliance, it also appreciated Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for the inclusion of all the NPF legislators in the Core Committee of the Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political Issue.

The division also reaffirmed to be prepared for the next state assembly election 2023, according to the update.
