Dimapur, Dec. 8: Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed grave concern on the declaration of December 25 by the BJP government at the centre as a ‘Good governance day,’ Fathers’ Day as ‘Yoga day’ and Good Friday as the ‘Judges Day,’ saying it is a downright insult to all Christians particularly for Nagaland that comprises more than 90% Christian population, while it asserted its utmost to protect, preserve, and safeguard the secular fabric of the country and not compromise on the dilution of Christmas day and Good Friday and the onslaught of BJP-RSS combined to annihilate Christianity.

NPCC expressed surprise at the DAN government’s silence on such vital issues and accused the latter of betraying people’s trust and continuing to adore and glorify leaders ‘who have been systematically dismantling the secular fabric of the country.’ ‘NPF has lost its ideological moorings of protecting and safeguarding the Naga interest vis a vis article 371 (A) while trying to placate its political master in Delhi,’ alleged Ayang Aonok, NPCC working president.

NPCC also shared its concern over the hardship faced by the people in Nagaland in the wake of demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. It asked how will Modi catch big fish by putting a cap on withdrawal of people’s legitimate money from their legitimate bank account? It said this dubious measure will not encourage black money holders to surrender their black money stashed in Swiss bank and tax-havens.

NPCC also ridiculed Modi’s initiative for a cashless society ‘when still many people in India do not know how to use a toilet.’ ‘The first step towards a gigantic task of a cashless society is to educate the people not rhetoric, and, to eradicate black money is certainly not letting pregnant women give birth in the ATM queue and letting critically ill people die, due to lack of cash in the ATM queue,’ NPCC reasoned.

Terming there was conspicuous lack of proper planning and the execution was flawed to the extent of killing many innocent people under the impact of this dubious economic policy, NPCC said it goes on to show that common people interest’s is the last priority of NDA government.

On the issue of GST, it said DAN government gave in meekly to the NDA regime that espouses one nation one tax regime, which will have far-reaching consequences vis-a vis article 371(A). It alleged the centre is slowly and assiduously encroaching on article 371 (A) of the constitution and would render this article meaningless. It said NPF that arrogated itself as the champion of regional pride and Naga peoples aspiration has now compromised its principle for money, wealth and power.

Besides, it said NPF’s open criticism of head of the State, NGOs and various organisations have stunned and shocked the entire State stakeholders. NPF, as ruling party, is expected to exhibit more restraint and the fair name of the Governor should not have dragged into the debate and slug it out with the Governor, NPCC said.

‘The NPF should realize that all living creatures in Nagaland are aware that Nagaland state has turned into one of the most corrupt and worst governed state and hence hang their head in shame instead of flexing its muscles to challenge the Governor,’ the statement added.
