Dimapur, Sep. 27 (EMN): President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), K Therie, has urged the public to vote for candidates who could best deliver the aspirations of the electorates, while he also cautioned against selling their votes in any form stating a government elected with such means will have no obligation or conscience to deliver the welfare of the people.

Therie said this in his speeches during the NPCC district tour to Tobu, Tuensang, Kiphire, Phek and Pfütsero towns from September 22 to 27.

Therie urged the people to read and understand the election manifestoes of the various political parties and vote for the candidate representing such party which assures to best deliver the aspirations of the electorate. Stating that candidates are the most crucial factor for the electorates in the local context, he emphasised the need for a change while deciding to vote as it is the political party which will form the government and be accountable to the people to deliver the commitments which have won their mandate.

Touching upon the clean election campaign as initiated by NBCC, he urged the people to refuse selling their votes in any form stating a government elected with such means will have no obligation or conscience to deliver the welfare of the people.

Saying that all the MLAs joined the NPF led BJP-DAN government to create an oppositionless government and indulge in absolute corruption, Therie said the districts have not seen any development since the Congress’ days and slammed the present government for being unable to maintain the infrastructure created during Congress time. In order to eliminate corruption, he said the Congress will project God-fearing candidates to constitute a God-fearing government.

Therie also alleged that the present MLAs do not believe in development and welfare but money alone to win votes. This, he said, is the reason that commissions, percentages, bogus bills and bribes have become the norm today.

Urging the people not to fear money power as it will no longer be the factor, Therie said the fight will be between the BJP and secular alliance of Congress plus 16 political parties which will go to polls to remove the communal BJP from office and re-establish the democratic and secular fabric of the nation. He also said the movement of Modi’s ouster has begun and exuded confidence that Rahul Gandhi will be the next Prime Minister of India.

Also rueing that the present system of governance has been completely centralised with work orders issued in Kohima and payments made in Kohima and Dimapur, Therie said given the opportunity, Congress government would decentralise governance to the lowest levels and give the responsibility to the implementing agencies.

Speaking in Tobu town, Therie said Congress would provide pre-determined prices for agricultural produce to protect farmers from variable market elements and thereby benefit from the assured returns. He also assured creation of cold storages at strategic locations for increasing shelf life of the produce and creation of value addition and marketing mechanisms.

He also highlighted other assurances contained in the NPCC Roadmap like 100 days wages to job card holders under MGNREGA, State road category elevation from ‘C’ Grade to ‘B’ Grade for timely repair and maintenance, cashless health cards to ensure health for all, development of infrastructure and basic amenities, besides others.

Speaking in Tuensang town, former MLA and NPCC vice president, Shami Angh urged the electorates to change the trend and consciously vote for the party which assures clean governance, development and welfare to the people. He also highlighted the danger of communalism and intolerance perpetrated by the BJP against Christians and other minority communities across the nation.

NPCC general secretary, Jonathan Ao, while alleging corrupt practices of the NPF led BJP-DAN government, said the mandate of the people has been betrayed with no development reaching the people. Alleging rampant corruptions, he appealed the public to vote consciously.

Also addressing the public meetings, Capt. GK Zhimomi, NPCC general secretary, said people should not sell their birthright during elections to live in ruin for 5 years.

Others who addressed the public meetings included Shaboh Konyak, former MLA and NPCC secretary; N Lucy, president NPMCC; and Vilhousielie Kengruse, president NPYC.
