Dimapur, Dec. 20 (EMN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has vehemently condemned the recent spate of attacks on Christian community by extreme religious fanatics across the country, while it also questioned the deafening silence of the state government to all the happenings.
“The arrest of Christmas Carol singing group in Madhya Pradesh by the police, burning down their vehicles by extreme religious outfits on false allegation of religious conversion and banning Christmas celebrations in Uttar Pradesh by a certain religious outfit is an outright assault on the secular fabric of the Indian Constitution,” NPCC media cell stated.
It has expressed surprise over the silence of the BJP government at the Centre to allow some religious fanatics to issue their diktats on the peaceful Christian community. It stated that ever since the BJP came to power in May 2014, various religious outfits and fringe elements have been allowed to run riot with scant regards to the law of the land.
“On close scrutiny, these extreme elements are the foot soldiers of BJP during elections and it is no wonder that the government chooses to look the other way round and allow the writ of the state to be hijacked by these fanatics who are no better than Taliban or ISIS,” NPCC alleged.
It has also termed as unfortunate that the NPF-BJP government in the state has remained mute spectator to all these happenings.
NPCC has expressed solidarity with the Christian community across the nation, who are living under constant fear psychosis perpetrated by the various religious outfits with the tacit blessings of the BJP government. It has demanded the Central government to take immediate action to rein on those extreme religious outfits and assured protection to the lives and rights of its citizens across the nation.
NPCC further appealed to the people of Nagaland to pray for their Christian brethren across the nation living under perpetual fear especially during the Christmas season so that the message of love and peace prevails over the politics of hatred and divisions.
