DIMAPUR — Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) recently launched an awareness drive by putting up hoardings on the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for environment) near Nagarjan police point in Dimapur. The awareness drive was launched by NPCB chairman, Rusovil John.

An update from NPCB stated that the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) was launched by the central government as a long-term, time-bound, national level strategy to achieve the targets to reduce air pollution. It added that the centre aimed at 40% reduction in air pollution (particulate matter) by 2026.

It mentioned that the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, had announced Mission LiFE to bring individual behaviours at the forefront of the global climate action narrative during 2021 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC). It added that Mission LiFE is an India-led global mass movement to nudge individual and community action to protect and preserve the environment.

The hoardings were put up to create awareness as per the Mission LiFE actionable points under 07 themes for implementation by individuals, communities and institutions for sustainable environment such as save energy, save water, say no to single-use plastic, reduce waste, reduce e-waste, adopt healthy lifestyles and adopt sustainable food systems.

“LiFE envisions replacing the prevalent ‘use-and-dispose’ economy—governed by mindless and destructive consumption—with a circular economy, which would be defined by mindful and deliberate utilization,” the statement reas.

It further stated that the mission intends to nudge individuals to undertake simple acts in their daily lives that could contribute significantly to climate change when embraced across the world.
