DIMAPUR — The two-day Wushu competition, which is part of the ongoing 3rd Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games, began on Thursday at Arena E in Chümoukedima.
According to an update, the championship features 52 participants, including seven females, from Dimapur, Peren, Phek, Mon, Shamator, Mokokchung, and Zunheboto.
It may be mentioned that Wushu Sanda is composed of Chinese martial arts applications, including most aspects of combat, including striking and grappling.
On the first day, the rounds, quarterfinal matches, and semifinal matches were completed. The players will now compete for the gold medal on the second day.
In the 52 kg category, Vipu Zhimomi from Zunheboto will compete against Wapang Ao, also from Zunheboto, in the final match.
In the finals for the 85 kg category, Tulumatatsung from Mokokchung will compete against Puthai Thai from Tuensang. For the 80 kg category, Vishal Sunar from Dimapur will face off against Lipokjonshi Imchen from Phek in the final match.
Moving on to the 56 kg category, Mankho, representing Mon, will play against Meidan I Phom from Zunheboto. In the 60 kg category, Aboto Ayemi from Zunheboto will compete against Nupa Kiho from Phek.
For the 65 kg category, Emtiramok Amri from Mokokchung will take on Akivito from Phek. In the 70 kg category, Kekhrieneitso Angami from Dimapur will go up against Nchumthung Tungoe, also from Dimapur.
In the 75 kg category, Temsu from Mokokchung will play against Yhoto Chizo from Zunheboto in the final match.
In the women’s category, Deepasana from Dimapur will compete against Youngtsula from Shamator in the 60 kg final. In the 45 kg category, Bwensin Seb from Peren will face off against Temsurenla from Mokokchung in the final match. Lastly, in the 56 kg category, Mahima Mech from Zunheboto will take on Kivikali, also from Zunheboto, in the final match of the 56 kg category.
During the inaugural ceremony, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chümoukedima, who inaugurated the championship, urged participants not only to excel in sports but also to become good citizens. He emphasised the scarcity of such individuals and encouraged them to exemplify true sportsmanship and contribute to society.
Kudecho Khamo, Advisor for Civil Administration Works Division and Taxes, and NWA president will attend the valedictory programme on Friday afternoon.
