NOPG 2024: Boxers compete at inter-district championship

Two boxers compete in the first quarterfinal match of the men’s 48 kg category at the Archery Ground in Sovima, Chümoukedima, on Thursday

DIMAPUR — As part of the ongoing Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Inter-District Boxing Championship was held at the Archery Ground in Sovima, Chümoukedima, on Thursday.

A total of 69 male and 26 female boxers participated in the event, which featured eight weight categories: 48 kg, 51 kg, 54 kg, 57 kg, 60 kg, 63.5 kg, 67 kg, and 75 kg.

In the first quarterfinal match of the men’s 48 kg category, Jafferson from Zunbeboto defeated Abhi Rai from Phek in unanimous decision. Mhasivilei from Kohima secured victory over Imolongba from Mokokchung by Referee Stops Contest (RSC) in the second round.

Similarly, Lairamsang from Chümoukedima triumphed over Asabo from Shamator by RSC in the second round and Bibek from Wokha emerged victorious against Junga from Dimapur by unanimous decision.

In the men’s quarterfinal of the 51 kg weight category, Kughaho from Zunheboto secured victory over Moameba from Mokokchung by RSC in the second round. Sangam Niuland triumphed over Akriebu Kohima by knockout in the first round and Alovito from Chümoukedima emerged victorious over Longshitung from Wokha in unanimous decision. Similarly, Thangyam Konyak from Mon defeated Yasraj from Dimapur by unanimous decision.

In the men’s 54 kg weight category, Besuvi from Kohima emerged victorious over Mongtangti from Mokokchung by RSC in the first round. Bhupan from Niuland secured a win over Renal Maramsa from Phek by knockout in the second round. Tsenteli from Zunheboto defeated Tensuk from Dimapur by knockout in the first round. Elangthung from Chümoukedima prevailed over Pongwang Wangsa from Mon by RSC in the second round.

In the men’s 57 kg weight category, Krishna from Kohima secured victory over Ozhozo from Zunheboto by RSC in the second round. Suraj, representing Dimapur, also emerged victorious by RSC in the second round against Shayam Khiam from Tseminyu. W Aman from Mon clinched a win over Vikhose Vose from Phek by unanimous decision. Similarly, Sukleswar from Shamator secured victory over Bishal from Chümoukedima by unanimous decision.

In the 60 kg weight category, Mhao Victor from Zunheboto secured victory over Chungpenthung from Kohima by RSC in the first round. Kilemsangba from Niuland also emerged victorious by defeating Nrubemo from Chümoukedima by RSC in the first round.

In the 63.5 kg weight category, Johny from Wokha achieved victory over Zuchamo from Chümoukedima by knockout in the second round. N Ongwanf representing Mon, defeated Mhao Odyoa from Dimapur by knockout in the first round. Myson from Phek secured a win over Wanbuddin from Kohima by split decision. Maiham from Shamator emerged victorious against Manglangsang from Niuland by RSC in the second round.

In the men’s 67 kg weight category, Neeraj from Wokha secured victory over Tingkup from Shamator by unanimous decision. Letminthung from Dimapur emerged victorious over Chingkom from Mon in the first round, with Chingkom surrendering by throwing a towel into the ring. Mulonglong from Mokokchung won against K Pushan from Noklak by split decision. Nikito from Zunheboto claimed victory over Zuchamo from Chümoukidema by unanimous decision.

In the men’s 75 kg weight category, Avizo from Niuland secured victory over W Pang Wang from Mon by RSC in the first round.

In the women’s 48 kg weight category quarterfinal, Satita from Chümoukedima emerged victorious over Kibaholi from Mokokchung by RSC in the first round. Additionally, Alona from Niuland was declared the winner as her opponent, Hatie Phal from Kohima, abandoned the match in the first round.
