Tired Mon’s business community resolves against extortion 

DIMAPUR, MAY 11:  THE disease of extortion in the guise of myriad and numerous “tax” and “donations” continues to plague the common man and business community alike. As with scores of communities and organizations across Nagaland, the Mon Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) has finally decided that enough is by itself enough already–the business community has decided to no longer allow any “tax” or donations. 
The MCCi issued a press release on Wednesday stating the decisions, as well as convening a general meeting. 
Besides the stance against the taxation, the organization has also issued a number of  regulations to the members of the business community in the district. 



Shops are banned from selling liquor and opium. Likewise the MCCI has warned against dishonest business practices. For instance, shopkeepers are asked to ensure that rice are measured out in front of customers. 
Also, “supply rice” from the civil supplies, meant for the public are not to be sold in the market. The MCCI has assured stringent action against those who violate the regulation. 
“This is hereby notified for information to all the business establishment in Mon headquarters must not pay any illegal taxes/donation. 
Further all the businessmen in Mon Head Quarter  are also asked to inform if any person forcing donation, demand and taxes then report immediately to the MCCI office HQ  Mon,” the MCCI stated in its press release.
The organization has informed all the business establishments in Mon district headquarter that a general meeting of the MCCI has bene convened to be conducted on May 14. The venue is the council hall in Mon town and would commence at 10:00 am. 
“Therefore, all the business establishment of Mon headquarter are hereby informing to attend the meeting without fail, and also request to the business establishment from Tizit, Naginimora, Aboi and Tobu Town to attend the meeting.”
In other directives, shop owners are also banned from selling liquor and opium. “If they are found it, then action will be taken seriously,” the MCCI stated.
Also, rice are to be weighed by the shopkeeper before the customer. “If anybody selling expiry goods, BPL, AAY, APL, MDM and Anna Purna rice in the market then action will be taken by MCCI,” the organization stated. 
The Additional District Supply Officer, block store keepers and village development boards, and Fair Price Shops in Mon district are warned against giving the “supply rice” to the market. “…if the supply rice are fund (sic) in the market from your account then action will be taken as per the law,” the organization added.
