KOHIMA, JUNE 8: For those government teachers who use their substitutes to attend to their duties at schools, they will be able to enjoy their grace period till June 30, 2016. Beginning from the month of July, the concerned department will be conducting a thorough investigation to look into the illegal practice.
Informing this today, the Minister of School Education and SCERT, Yitachu has cautioned that the department will even go to the extent of terminating a teacher if found under this illegal practice.

“The teacher(s) in question will be terminated and judged under the criminal procedure. Send this message to all teachers,” Yitachu said adding that ‘no grace period’ will be given beyond June 30, 2016, wherein the law will take its own course of action.
The minister was addressing a host of Physical Education teachers at Ura Academy hall during the inaugural function of the three-day training-cum-conference for physical education teachers on newly printed handbook.

The minister also pointed out that the concerned department, over the years, has been detecting several such cases of malpractices within the education department. He supported the stern initiative to be taken by the government, with the note that “it is a corrective measure to clean the messy education department.” “If we are incapable or incompetent, let us not deprive others of their share and rights,” he added.

The minister regretted that so many problems have cropped up within the education department. “We have so many stakeholders today not allowing the department to proceed with its programmes and initiatives,” he appealed.
Stating that “there cannot be any system which can be permanent fit,” he urged the stakeholders not to hinder “but to allow the department to go ahead with what it thinks is best for the department.”

The minister also reminded the PE teachers on the issue of rationalization within the education department. “We have come across many schools without a single PE teacher, while we have seen excess (two/three) PE teachers in some schools.
“The department will soon look into the matter and opt for transfer where there are excess PE teachers,” he informed. However, on this note, he invited the PE teachers to volunteer themselves to opt for transfer in nearby schools or villages.

“We would like to entertain those applications who volunteer themselves, so that they will be accommodated to those schools without PE teachers,” he said maintaining that those who volunteer themselves will be given the preference (school) of their choice.
Stating that the government had already issued a directive advising all the schools to concentrate on one sports discipline alone, he reminded the PE teachers to follow that directive, maintaining that this will help the government to locate those areas where Naga students are talented.

He also sought suggestions from the PE teachers in regard to sports discipline. “I am hopeful that the outcome of this State level conference of PE teachers will produce far reaching consequences in the years to come,” he said. On the day, the minister also released a new handbook for PE teachers and students of the State from Class 6-10.

The programme, chaired by ANPETA president Vitsolie Keyho, commenced with invocation pronounced by Mesehol. The welcome address was delivered by T. Lipok Jamir, deputy director (PE), while GHSS Seikhazou presented a song. The vote of thanks was tendered by Venolie Medom. The three-day conference was organized by the All Nagaland Physical Education Teachers Association.
