‘No mercy’ for police personnel involved in drugs, alcohol, says Nagaland DGP
KOHIMA — Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP), Rupin Sharma, on Friday sent out a stern warning to drug addicts, alcoholics and drug traffickers among the police personnel, saying that there will be “no mercy” for such people and would be discharged from the service if caught.
He said this in a message to the police personnel which was live streamed on Nagaland Police Facebook page.
List of “suspected” users is being maintained and “final warning” letter was already given out to them to stop using banned substance and alcohol, said Sharma, while asking them to check in to rehabilitation centres within a week on their own expenses.
‘If they go to rehabilitation centre, it’ll be considered as sick (leave) but if not, they will be considered as criminals,’ he said, asking them to stop substance abuse.
The police chief appealed to the family members to understand the severity of the matter, adding that Nagaland has efficient and educated people to replace the employees.
Maintaining that “last warning” had been served to erring police personnel, including senior officers, stating that they will be arrested and discharged from their service if found involving in drug trafficking, the DGP reminded not to take risk.
He also requested the police personnel to bring forth their suggestions and genuine problems, including personal matters to him, assuring to look into their problems to whatever extent possible.
