‘BJP and NPF have one-point agenda on Congress and that is Congress-free NLA’

BJP Nagaland Unit president Dr. M Chuba Ao today came down heavily on Congress party in the state for claiming its right to join the DAN government, and demanded that they should first disown party’s identity. “Congress in Nagaland is without principle and ideology because they had sold it out on February 5, 2015.”
The BJP president in a statement said, “If they do so, they will be joining the NDA government. BJP being the pre-poll alliance of DAN, the alliance and the government are inseparable. They are the two sides of the same coin. The spirit of NDA alliance between BJP and NPF are inseparable. Congress has to reconcile to that reality. For Congress to join the government; there is no other way than to disown its own identity first.”
Stating that BJP Nagaland is making its political strategies public, Chuba reiterated his party’s stand that there can not be any meeting point for Congress and BJP.
“This stand was reaffirmed by BJP National President Amit Shah in his visit to Nagaland on 17th April 2015. Needless to say, the focal point of BJP’s strategy rested on this uncompromising stand.”
Chuba noted that Congress is claiming its right to join the government on the basis of the floor test in which they had voted for the motion ignoring popular mandate given to them by their electorates.
Prior to the floor test, he said, Congress was the principal opposition party in Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) and the role of opposition was very clear.
There was no room for opposition party to vote for the motion but the Congress did it and lost its status too, he said and added, they blamed BJP for their own foolish game.
“Floor test was called in NLA on 5th Feb. 2015. Congress had played the game of no ‘first move’. On 3rd Feb. 2015, BJP made the first move by announcing that BJP legislators would abstain which continued till 5th morning. By 4th Feb. 2015, Congress had decided to vote for the motion. BJP’s strategy was not to pull down, but strengthen, the only NDA government in the north east India. When it became clear that Congress was securely in the cage, BJP pulled the lid and voted for the motion. In the political game, it was all about strategy. The strategy of BJP was to confuse the Congress. They fell for it. It couldn’t be called our fault.”
Chuba said, Congress had thrown itself inside NDA’s fence consciously or subconsciously on February 5. The floor test result was the proof that they had voted for DAN, an ally of NDA, as it was clearly mentioned in their ballot papers, he said.
“ DAN has been an ally of NDA even in DAN-III. The letter addressed to BJP National President, dated 19th March 2014 signed jointly by Dr. Shurhozelie, NPF President and K.G. Kenye, Secretary General, NPF was the proof. That, both MPs representing DAN are also part of the NDA gives the other proof.”
Maintaining that BJP and NPF have been in alliance since 2003 with the common objective to defeat Congress in elections in Nagaland, he said, BJP has a declared policy to make India Congress-free, and in terms of principle and ideology, BJP has achieved that objective in Nagaland.
State BJP president said, both BJP and NPF have one point agenda on Congress in the ongoing political game and that is to make the NLA ‘Congress-free’.
“The desperation of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) seems so great that they want to join the government even by defying their high command. If they want to join as non-Congress entity, none should have a problem. When that happens, the political dream of BJP and NPF will be fully realized.”
“Since Congress in Nagaland has been in opposition for over a decade, it is natural that they want to be in the government even when they know that DAN-III government is NDA government, directly or indirectly. If Congress is desperate to join the government and work along the line of DAN’s common minimum program which is in tune with NDA government’s policies and programs, their helplessness may be appreciated.

But they need to be committed to bear true allegiance to NDA. As it is now, Congress’ hidden agenda to reinvigorate itself by entering the government through the backdoor is all too transparent. They have to do better.”
As for party-less government, Chuba said, it is unworkable, as unlike Congress other parties will not like to lose their own identities.
He said, all-party government for the sake of Naga political solution won’t make any difference as NDA government had already announced a time-bound solution and the process is underway.
Pointing out that UPA government had failed the Nagas in over ten years of its rule, even though the Joint Legislatures Forum (JLF) was firmly in place in the last NLA, Chuba said, it is immaterial now whether or not, the Congress joins the government.
“All political parties should support the NDA government’s efforts to bring about solution irrespective of whether or not, they are in the government.”
