DIMAPUR — The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has appreciated all the women candidates, who have participated in the landmark democratic process of the urban local body elections held on Wednesday.

The association also placed on record its gratitude to the People’s Union for Civil Liberties, the country’s largest human rights organisation, for continuing the municipal election matter in the Supreme Court till the end. It expressed happiness to note that the long years of struggle by Naga women has ushered in so many women into the electoral fray and some who are fortunate to be elected unopposed.

The NMA acknowledged the committed leaders of the Joint Action Committee on Women Reservation from different tribe women organisations that was formed in 2011. It particularly remembered with gratitude their colleagues Late Temsusola Jamir, first president of Watsu Mungdang, and Kalesha Kath, former president of Rengma Mothers’ Association, who have not lived to see this day.
