DIMAPUR — While extending solidarity with the Nagaland Medical Students’ Association (NMSA), the Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) has strongly opposed to the proposed special recruitment drive for 280 posts and appealed to the department of Health and Family Welfare to cancel the departmental examination to ensure justice to all the eligible candidates.

In a letter to the principal director of Health and Family Welfare, the federation contended that the department’s notification dated August 20, 2024, was in violation of the fundamental rights of the citizens of India guaranteed under Article 14 which states that the state cannot deny equality before the law and Article 16 of the Indian Constitution which provides for equal opportunities for employment and appointment to any office under the state.

“The federation is unable to comprehend the rationality of the unreasonable proposed action of your department notification dated August 20 as it directly contravenes your department advertisement on August 20, 2024, which clearly stated that all appointments would be on temporary basis for 12 months or direct recruitment through NPSC, whichever was earlier, and the appointees would have no right to claim for regularization of the temporary service on any ground whatsoever,” the federation said.

It was of the opinion that appointment at the whims and caprices of the government without following due procedures would embolden further anomalies and thereby deprive justice to the equals.

While acknowledging the department for deferring the proposed special recruitment drive, the federation stated that it would not remain silent if the proposed recruitment drive was to take place as it would deprive many eligible candidates of equal opportunity.

Taking cognisance of the fact, the federation appealed to the department to strictly implement rule of law by cancelling the proposed special recruitment drive for 280 posts and requisition it to the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) for early conduct of examination, thereby ensuring justice for all the eligible candidates.
