NIT Nagaland hosts marathon ahead of National Science Day
DIMAPUR — Over 88 participants, including 41 girls and 47 boys, as well as faculty members, took part in a marathon organised by the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Nagaland, on the theme ‘Run for a sustainable future’ on February 16.
According to an update, the event, which is an annual highlight leading up to National Science Day, was organised by the NIT Nagaland Science Society (NNSS) at the campus of the institute.
In the girls’ category, covering a 4-kilometre stretch, Lea N Chophi secured the first position, followed closely by Kina Assumi and Khriezoseinuo in second and third places, respectively. In the boys’ category, covering a 6.4-kilometre distance, Sajad Uddin Qureshi, Keying David, and Tovi Achumi secured the first, second, and third positions, respectively.
The winners received cash prizes and certificates.
Dr. Jyoti Prasad Borah, associate professor and president of the NIT Nagaland Science Society, expressed his anticipation for the upcoming National Science Day celebrations, while the society’s vice president, Gongotree Phukan, and general secretary, Shokom Salim, informed that the institute will host the sixth edition of ALRIS on February 28, coinciding with National Science Day.
The event will include science exhibitions, poster competitions, extempore speeches, quizzes, and much more, it said, adding that several schools and colleges from Dimapur, as well as Chümoukedima, have been invited to be a part of the event.
