Ningthoujam Sheetal Singh wins Manipur Indigenous Wrestling Championship 2022

The four-day Manipur Indigenous Wrestling Championship 2022 concluded at Mini Stadium, Senapati district headquarters, on Saturday with Ningthoujam Sheetal Singh winning the championship title in above 65 kg category.

The event was organised by the Senapati District Wrestling Association and hosted by Makhrelui village as a part of Manipur Sangai Festival 2022.

In the above 65 kg category, Rakhovei Liimai won the second prize and L Moses was placed in the third position.

In the below 65 kg below category, Apao Tho won the first prize, while M Dai Zho won second prize and SK Veilou third.

Altogether, about 60 wrestling participated in the four-day event.

Speaking at the valedictory function, Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced that Senapati district will be the ‘capital’ of indigenous wrestling for the state and all future events of the sport should be held there.

He said that next to Khuman Lampak complex in Imphal, a sports complex will be set up in Senapati district, as four stadiums are in the offing.

To bring change in the state, he said various programmes and initiatives such as ‘Go to Hill’, ‘Go to Village’, etc. had been started to reach out to people across the state.

Now, the state government is on the verge of initiating ‘Health for all at the doorstep’ so that health services like free treatment could availed by all, he said, while appealing all the citizens of Manipur to come forward and support the government.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP and titular king Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba; Ministers Khashim Vashum (Veterinary Animal Husbandry and Transport), and L Susindro Meitei (Public Health Engineering and Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution; and 47 Karong A/C MLA J Kumo Sha. President of Naga People’s Organisation Solomon Arrow, village chairmen, and several leaders were present during the event.
