DIMAPUR — The Nagaland In-service doctors’ Association (NIDA) has congratulated the Government of Nagaland and the Department of Health & Family Welfare, for successfully obtaining the ‘Letter Of Intent’ (LOI) to start Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR), the first medical college in the state.

“To have a medical college of our own has been a long cherished dream for many of us. Today, that dream became a reality due to this ‘Letter Of Intent’ which in other words can also be termed as a ‘permit’ to start a new medical college,” NIDA said in a press release.

The association said there are several stringent guidelines and criteria laid down by National Medical Commission and that without fulfilling those guidelines, it is not permissible to start a new medical college.

If the college functions smoothly, it will become a boon for the state as it will create many employment opportunities for both technical and non-technical employees. On the medical education front, it will usher in an academic atmosphere into the hospitals, whereby the students and faculties will be compelled to engage themselves in latest medical education and technologies.

“The number of medical graduates will also increase in order to meet the demand of the increasing population. The quality of medical care in the state will definitely improve as the competition is increased. Medical graduates will also be widely available to abroad as well as to other Indian states for employment thereby improving our economic state. The list of benefits is endless,” NIDA said.
