DIMAPUR — The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has implemented full digitisation of the train signal register (e-TSR) at 60 stations under its jurisdiction to enhance transparency.
In the existing method, the train signal register is maintained manually by station masters and contains details of all passing trains, like entry/exit timing and related processes, according to an official statement.
The new system results in a high level of transparency and leaves the station master with more time to concentrate on safety aspects, the statement said, adding that there is also no possibility of altering or fudging the data.
e-TSR is a legal document that can be a valuable source of information when investigating accidents, for example.
It also noted that there has already been extensive digitization of train planning and monitoring in railways with the commissioning of the control office application, in which the entire process of train charting has been computerised and the train control rooms of all divisions across India have been connected in real time.
“This has minimised human interference and increased efficiency of operational planning, giving benefits like timely running of trains and better planning of precedence, etc.,” it said.
