Hot conditions in UP, Jhansi sizzles at 43.2⁰ Celsius

Lucknow April 13 (PTI): Day temperatures rose in many parts of Uttar Pradesh with Jhansi sweltering under the scorching sun at 43.2 degrees Celsius. Jhansi was the hottest place in the state at 43.2 degrees Celsius. Allahabad had a high of 42.1 degrees Celsius. Rae Bareli was the coolest place at 15.4 degrees Celsius.

India will go to any extent to get justice for Jadhav: Rajnath 

New Delhi, April 13 (PTI): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday reiterated that India will go to any extent to ensure justice for former navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav. He said External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had already made the country’s stand clear in this regard and that whatever he had said in Parliament in this regard few days back remains unchanged. 46-year-old Jadhav has been awarded death sentence by a Pakistani military court on charges of alleged “espionage and sabotage” activities.

Prez to lay foundation stone for Ambedkar School of Economics

New Delhi, April 13 (PTI): President Pranab Mukherjee will lay foundation stone for the Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics at Bengaluru on Friday. The proposed institution is modelled on the London School of Economics. The state government has approved Rs 150 crore in the first phase for construction of the building. The school is likely to commence from the 2017-18 academic year.

Adityanath govt to hold mass wedding of poor Muslim girls

Lucknow, April 13 (PTI): The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is planning to organise mass weddings for poor girls belonging to religious minorities, in an apparent attempt by the Chief Minister to shed his Hindu hardliner image. A proposal is being prepared, the minister said, adding besides extending monetary assistance of Rs 20,000 to each bride, the government will bear other expenses for the mass wedding. He said the idea of mass weddings for girls from minority communities, which would also include Sikhs and Christians, came from the chief minister himself. Initially, it will be a pilot project, and if it receives a good response, the government plans to make it a bi-annual affair, he said.

ED conducts searches on CAs, tax professionals in Delhi

New Delhi, April 13 (PTI): The ED on Thursday conducted multiple searches against tax professionals and chartered accountants (CAs) in Delhi in connection with an operation to unearth black money being generated using shell companies. A clutch of over two dozen CAs, company secretaries and other tax professionals are being searched, they said, adding the action is part of a follow up of the country-wide searches the agency carried out early this month against 500 shell companies suspected to be generating huge amounts of black money.

Video of youths beating jawans: CRPF to take strong action 

Srinagar, April 13 (PTI): The CRPF said on Thursday that a video clip showing some youths beating its jawans during bypoll to the Srinagar parliamentary constituency on April 9 was “authentic” and that it has started investigation and will “strongly” deal with the issue. Sahi said the incident happened in Kralpora area in the Chadoora assembly segment in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. The officer said the force would follow the case in a “strong way”.

EPFO members to get loyalty-cum-life benefit of up to Rs 50k 

New Delhi, April 13 (PTI): Retirement fund body EPFO’s subscribers will get loyalty-cum-life benefit of up to Rs 50,000 at the time of retirement for contributing to the scheme for 20 years or more. The benefit will also be provided in case of permanent disability even if the members have contributed for less than 20 years, the EPFO board has decided. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation’s (EPFO) apex decision making body, the Central Board of Trustees (CBT), has recommended a minimum sum assured of Rs 2.5 lakh in the event of death of a subscriber. The board has recommended such benefits in view of a huge EDLI corpus of Rs 18,119 crore following addition of interest that accrued on investment of this fund.

Over 130 cyclists to go for heritage ride in Shimla

Shimla, April 13 (IANS): Over 130 cyclists from 20 cities will carry out a heritage ride in the Himachal Pradesh capital on Friday to raise environment awareness and encourage cycling, event organisers said on Thursday. The first of its kind initiative is part of the Sixth Hero MTB Shimla and is organised by the Himalayan Adventure Sports and Tourism Promotion Association (HATSPA). Cycling as an alternative to commute has been explored by many cities like Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Taipei. These cities have significantly reduced carbon emissions by encouraging the residents to use cycling.

West Bengal minority council demands ‘ban’ on RSS

Kolkata, April 13 (IANS): The West Bengal Minority United Council on Thursday appealed to the state government to impose “complete ban” on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The council accused the RSS of destroying the atmosphere of peace and plotting a communal riot in West Bengal. Criticising the armed rallies on the occasion of the Ram Navami and the Hanuman Jayanti in the state, All Bengal Minority Youth Federation General Secretary Md. Kamruzaman said the minority community cannot be scared by showing weapons.

No bar on use of internet for information, knowledge: SC

New Delhi, April 13 (IANS): The Supreme Court on Thursday said the right to access information, knowledge and wisdom on internet cannot be curtailed unless it violates the statutory provisions prohibiting propagation and advertisement of sex determination techniques. It further recorded the statements by the counsel for three(Google India, Yahoo India and Microsoft Corporation (India) Ltd) search engines that they do not intend to take an adversarial position but on the contrary would play a participative and co-operative role, so that the law made by Parliament to control sex selection and to enhance the sex ratio is respected.
