New play area for children ‘My Playland’ inaugurated in Kohima

KOHIMA — ‘My Playland,’ a new play area for children including cave dark for children to get over their fears located at the Capital Cultural Hall in Kohima was inaugurated on Saturday.

The newly built play space for children have features such as spiral stairs to the crater of the volcano, maze, lava obstacle course, dinosaur fossil hunt, rock climbing and slide.

Proprietor of ‘My Playland,’ Avikuo Tepa, said bringing the place to life was quite challenging, adding despite the lack of resources they were determined to do it. He shared that the work has not been easy but the support from friends, family and people, who came forward providing materials, financial support and unwavering prayers, had made it easier.

He also informed that everything at the space was made in Nagaland and the making process has been interesting filled with trials and error.

In order to make it a secure environment for children, he said they first closely observed while his nephews and nieces were playing. Some of them got injured and accordingly they identified potential hazards and made necessary adjustments and improvised it. He added the space is now safe place for the children to come and experience something different from home.

The venue would be opened from Monday at 11 am to 7 pm. It would also host children’s events and offer daycare services.

The project director of Task Force for Music and Arts, Dr. Hovital Sothu, officially opened the new children play area. He commended the proprietor for his creativity and innovation by making use of a small area in the form of play area for children.

He believed that the effort would benefit a lot of people, children and parents as there is hardly any place for children to play.
