Nestlé India conducts training for street food vendors
DIMAPUR — Under the project ‘Serve safe food,’ Nestlé India organised training for street food vendors at Tourist Lodge in Dimapur on Friday. The training was organised with support from the Food Safety Authority, Nagaland.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, the deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal, thanked the organisers for initiating the programme saying that it is much required in the city. He urged the food restaurant owners and food vendors to follow the guidelines and serve food fit for human consumption.
As food directly affects human health, the DC urged the food vendors to follow safety measures. He also encouraged the vendors to look into various factors to attract customers. The DC further asked the food vendors not to throw their waste and garbage on the streets.
Also speaking at the programme, the deputy commissioner of police, Vesupra Kezo, stated that Nagaland is a good place to do food business, while he urged the food vendors to maintain hygiene and good quality food. He urged the food vendors to learn through the training and upgrade their standards and management.
He further asked them to obey traffic rules and not block the roads but set up their business in places allotted by the administration.
The administrator of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), Manpai Phom, informed that the main purpose of the training was to learn with an open mind and apply it in their work. He asked the vendors to keep the city clean.
The designated food safety officer, Samuel Zehol, has stressed the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI). He also stressed on the importance of healthy and hygienic food and encouraged the street food vendors to register with the department.
The senior manager of branch corporate affairs of Nestlé India Ltd., Surojit Mukherjee, informed that they would conduct training with 500 street food vendors in Kohima and Dimapur with the support from Food Safety Authority, Nagaland, and Dimapur Municipal Council.
The training modules included personal hygiene and cart hygiene; food handling and food safety; cleaning and pest control; waste management, and garbage disposal.
