Dimapur, April 11 (EMN): In recognition of its efforts to provide the best affordable treatment to patients, North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (Neigrihms) hospital, Shillong received the Ayushman Utkristata Puraskar 2021 for best performing hospital in small state category on April 8.
The award was given to the medical institute for the highest number of insurance claims raised by any hospital in the smallest state category, an update informed.
Neigrihms successfully implemented Ayushman Bharat – PMJAY in convergence with MHIS (Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme) for the benefit of poor patients. In addition to these schemes, the institute is also implementing CMAAY (Chief Minister Arunachal Aarogya Yojna) and RAN (Rastriya Aarogya Nidhi) schemes for cashless treatment to needy patients.
Neigrihms also won the first position in the country for their performance in observance of World Oral Health Day (March 20). The award programme was held at Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi on April 8 and the winners were handed the certificates by Dr. Sunil Kumar DGHS, ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
World Oral Health Day was celebrated by the department of Dentistry under the leadership of prof. S Vijay Singh, professor and HoD. Neigrihms also conducted radio talk shows, awareness run campaigns, poster competition and various community based programmes including oral screening in schools, orphanages and old age homes.
Oral hygiene kits and pamphlets on importance of oral and dental health were distributed to mark the day.
Meanwhile, prof. (Dr.) Tanie Natung, professor and head, department of Ophthalmology, Neigrihms was honoured with the prestigious Sushruta Samman award. The award was presented to him during the 5th national assembly of Forum of Ophthalmology Professors of India (FOPI) and Pan India HoD Ophthalmology group meeting held at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh on April 2 and 3rd.
He was honoured for his outstanding role as a professor and HoD, Ophthalmology in teaching and training the undergraduate (MBBS) and post graduate (MD/MS) students and for excellence in eye surgeries. Sushruta Samman is the highest national award accorded by FOPI in Ophthalmology.
It may be mentioned that prof. (Dr.) Natung is also a recipient of the prestigious ‘International Council of Ophthalmology’ fellowship award and ‘Delhi Ophthalmological Society’ travel grant award. He is an expert in phaco-refractive surgeries and strabismus and paediatric ophthalmology.
