Kohima, Aug. 13 (EMN): Chairman of Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), Asano Sekhose on Saturday said with changing times and knowledge easily available in all platforms, there is a need to relook education instead of detecting things for students to learn.

She was addressing the All Nagaland Private Schools Association (ANPSA) Kohima Unit inter-school quiz and extempore competition held at St Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School (SMCHSS), Lerie Kohima as special guest.

Sekhose emphasised that platform and room should be given to the students to experience their skills and discovery based on teaching methods.

She pointed out that the quest for learning will always remain, adding that education is no more about content knowledge but about understanding with creativity and problem-solving, and development of communication skills.

The official asserted that the students need to put more effort while schools should also give more efforts to students, stressing on the importance of teachers giving platforms to the students to build their curiosity and going beyond textbooks.

She viewed that present generation of students are global citizens, adding that it is imperative to know their responsibility in order to give back to society and in nation building. In this regard, he exhorted them to build oneself with a lot of skills, in order to be able to compete with the rest of the world.

Further, she also lauded the Kohima unit of ANPSA for organising the programme in giving platform to the students to develop their cognitive skills and various other abilities in exploring beyond the text book to expand their horizon.

Earlier, Zhopota Rhakho, President ANPSA Kohima Unit, highlighted the significance of the event and inform that altogether 25 schools participated out of 72 schools.

Result

In extempore competition, first position was won by Lunkumsola from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Kohima, second by Kekhriesienuo Sekhose from Mezhür Higher Secondary School and third position by Imnaakum Imsong from Stella Higher Secondary School.

In Quiz Competition, first position was won by Don Bosco Higher Secondary (Kikrukhrienuo Judith, and Aranglong Sangtam), second position by Little Flower Higher Secondary School (Lokemi Achumi and  Chothanu Kharutso), third position by Mount Sinai Higher Secondary School (J Kevin Johnson and Durmi Sangma), fourth position by Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School (Vileto Yhoshü and Yanlumo Ezung) and fifth position by Mezhür Higher Secondary School (Pelengunuo Tsürho and  Idabuing Iralu).

The consolation prizes were won by Holy Family Higher Secondary School (Wapongtemjen Jamir and Manya Walim), Dainty Buds (Abong Along and Nansen Wanth) and Trinity School (Ankita Kumari and Shedziine Pao)
