Dimapur, July 25 (EMN): Social Studies textbook of Class 3, which has been approved by the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT), has received criticisms on social media platforms over misinformation on the states in the Northeast.
As per the contents of the textbook on ‘states, its capitals and the languages spoken,’ it is mentioned that the languages spoken in Nagaland are Nepali, Bengali and Hindi.
Interestingly, no mention has been made on English, which was proclaimed by the Nagaland Assembly in 1967 as the official language of the state, Nagamese (a creole which widely spoken) and more than a dozen languages that are spoken by various communities.
The textbook co-authored by Dr. Dhananjay Joshi and Neelam Jain also mentioned that the languages spoken in Arunachal Pradesh are Bengali, Nepali, Hindi and Assamese; Nepali, Bengali and Hindi in Meghalaya; and Manipuri, Nepali and Hindi in Manipur.
Student body from Arunachal Pradesh and Khasi student body have reacted to the misinformation on the Northeast region.
