NBCC youth dept. to organise tree plantation drive on May 18
Dimapur, May 16 (EMN): The Youth Department of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) will be organising a tree plantation drive on May 18.
In a press release, the NBCC youth department informed that the purpose of the plantation drive is in pursuance and fulfilling the commitment of NBCC taken during the sesquicentennial (2022), which seeks to encourage its members to actively participate in the task of creation care, taking their duty and privilege as custodians of the earth seriously, and working towards retaining her original state of goodness (Gen.1:10, 18, 21 and 25).
Towards this, the youth board of NBCC voted to initiate planting of Moringa trees, which are also referred to as the “magic tree” indigenous to northern parts of India but also located in other tropical and subtropical places.
Moringa trees also have valuable nutritional values and multiple potential medicinal benefits, it stated.
The NBCC youth secretary, Rev. Suhuto Chishi informed that all the associations and associates members under NBCC are prepared to actively participate in this event with about one lakh tree saplings to be planted around the church and household compounds.
“The NBCC office earnestly appeals the churches to attempt to lend a green touch to the environment and sensitise the people about their role in conserving it through their participation in this drive,” the release added.
