Rs 2 lakh to kin of Bharatpur victims: PM

New Delhi, May 11 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of those killed in a wall collapse in a marriage hall in Bharatpur in Rajasthan. He also announced Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured in the incident. At least 24 persons were killed and 28 injured when the wall of a marriage hall collapsed in Bharatpur district late on Wednesday.

41 injured in bus crash after driver’s epileptic fit

Dehradun, May 11 (IANS): At least 40 persons were injured on Thursday in Uttarakhand when a state-owned Uttar Pradesh bus rammed into a tree after the driver had an epileptic fit, police said. The incident took place at Bhagwanpur in Roorkie. People from nearby villages rescued those trapped inside the mangled bus. Police officer Bhagwan Meher said 22 of the injured were being treated at a government hospital while some others were admitted in private clinics.

Head severed, thrown into police station

Chennai, May 11 (IANS): In a gruesome incident, a youth was beheaded in Puducherry and his head was flung into a police station complex in Tamil Nadu, police said on Thursday. The severed head was brought in a two wheeler and thrown into the Reddichavadi police station in Cuddalore district on Wednesday night, a policeman told IANS over phone. Three persons have been arrested for the murder.

11 killed in MP road accident

Jabalpur, May 11 (IANS): At least 11 persons were killed and 15 injured in a road accident here in Madhya Pradesh, police said. According to official sources, workers from the Forest Department were being taken to collect Tendu leaves from Tilwara to Chargawan area around 1 a.m. on Thursday when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into a culvert and fell into a channel near Jamuniya village.

BJP expels 87 leaders, workers in UP

Lucknow, May 11 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh’s ruling BJP has expelled 87 party leaders and workers for six years for “anti-party activities”, a leader said on Thursday. State General Secretary Vidya Sagar Sonkar said the action was taken following a probe by the disciplinary committee of the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The expelled leaders and workers had either contested against the BJP candidates in assembly elections or backed the opposition, he added.

Schools close to LoC shut after Pakistan shelling

Jammu, May 11 (IANS): All schools close to the LoC were shut in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Thursday following the death of a woman in shelling by the Pakistan Army. The district administration has alerted emergency services to deal with any eventuality because of the heightened tension at the border. Earlier, Defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta told IANS that a woman was killed in indiscriminate firing and shelling by the Pakistan Army on Wednesday evening in Naushera sector. The Pakistanis used small arms, automatics, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars. Intermittent firing was still going on, the official said.

‘6 terrorists were involved in killing Lt. Ummer’

Srinagar, May 11 (IANS): A day after Lt. Ummer Fayaz was found murdered, Indian Army sources have said six terrorists were involved in the killing of the 22-year-old Kashmiri officer. While no terrorist group has yet claimed responsibility for the killing, an army officer said that it was possible the terrorists initially did not intend to kill the officer and did so after a scuffle. Around six terrorists are believed to be involved in the act, sources said, and two of them had entered the house where Lt. Ummer had gone to attend a wedding to identify him.

FIR against Google over search result on Modi

Shahjahanpur (UP), May 11 (PTI): An FIR has been lodged against Google under the IT Act for an alleged derogatory search result in 2015 involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Superintendent of Police (City) Kamal Kishore today said the FIR was registered under various sections of the IT Act on a complaint of lawyer Nand Kishore. When contacted, a Google spokesperson said, “We have not received any notice of this complaint and are unable to comment.” In the complaint lodged yesterday, Kishore said that while surfing national news on Google, he had come across a list that mentioned Modi in a derogatory manner. He said it caused hurt to him and others.
