Sub-inspector rapes minor inside police quarters
Rampur (UP), Oct. 1 (PTI): In a shocking incident, a drunk sub-inspector allegedly raped a seven-year-old girl inside the police quarters in the district, police said today.
The incident happened last night at Bhanwarka near Kemri town in Rampur district, when an inebriated Tejveer Singh caught hold of the minor, who was playing outside the police outpost, and allegedly raped her inside the quarters, an official said. According to eye witnesses, a constable raised an alarm over the incident. The incident enraged the locals, who gheraoed the police outpost and tried to vandalise it. Superintendent of police Vipin Tada reached the spot and pacified the angry mob by arresting the accused and suspending him.

Iqbal Kaskar, two others sent to judicial custody
Thane (Maharashtra), Oct. 1 (IANS): A holiday court on Sunday sent mafia operative Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar and two others to judicial custody till October 13, as their police custody came to an end. Police custody of a fourth accused, betting racket operator Pankaj Gangar, nabbed from Mumbai’s Borivali last Thursday, for allegedly financing Iqbal, has been extended till October 5. All the accused – including Kaskar, Israr Sayed and Mumtaz Shaikh – were arrested on September 18 from Mumbai in connection with an extortion case of a prominent Thane-based realtor and grabbing four flats in a prime location besides Rs three million in cash. Earlier, police had sought their custody to probe the involvement of absconding mafia don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar in the extortion racket run by his younger brother, Iqbal Kaskar, since 2013.

Five die in Bengal road accident
Kolkata, Oct. 1 (IANS): Five passengers, including a woman, died in a road accident on Sunday as the car in which they were travelling crashed into a dumper truck in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district, police said. “Four people including the driver died on the spot in the accident. Another person expired in the hospital,” a police officer said. The accident occurred in West Midnapore district’s Kharagpur area. Police said they have seized the dumper involved in the accident. The driver of the truck fled from the spot.

Rs. six lakh reward for help in arresting Kashmir braid choppers
Srinagar, Oct. 1 (IANS): With the public anger rising in the Kashmir Valley against mysterious incidents of braid chopping, police on Sunday announced a reward of Rs 6 lakh for anyone helping in nabbing the culprits. Earlier, the police had announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh. “The reward for giving information/assistance in nabbing any person found involved in braid cutting has been doubled to Rs 6 lakh. The name and particulars of the person/persons will be kept secret,” a police statement said. Incidents of braid chopping started in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district quickly spreading to other places including central and northern districts of the valley. So far, there has been no arrests.

Five killed in Telangana bus accident
Hyderabad, Oct. 1 (IANS): Five people were killed and 14 others injured when a bus collided with a stationary truck in Telangana’s Suryapet district on Sunday, police said. The accident occurred at 3 a.m. near Muddulacheruvu, about 150 km from Hyderabad. The bus belonging to Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) was en route to Hyderabad from Vijayawada. The driver while trying to overtake another bus hit the truck, witnesses said. There were 36 passengers in the bus. The injured were admitted to hospitals at Kodad and Suryapet.

Man shot dead by wife’s lover in Bengal, five arrested
Kolkata, Oct. 1 (IANS): Three more people were arrested in West Bengal’s Bardhaman district on Sunday in connection with the murder of a man, allegedly by his wife’s lover, taking the total number of arrests to five in the case, police said. Chanchal Ghosh, a resident of Bardhaman district’s Kanksa, was shot dead in his bedroom in the wee hours on Saturday. The woman Riya Ghosh and her lover Jhantu Mondal were arrested on Saturday after a complaint was lodged by the family of the deceased. “After interrogating the two prime accused, we have arrested the mother, father and aunt of Jhantu Mondal on Sunday for allegedly being involved in the conspiracy,” an officer from Kanksa police station said.

Youth dies after falling off  tractor-trolley
Sonebhadra (UP), Oct. 1 (PTI): A youth died after falling from a tractor-trolley in Bharhari village in the Jugail area while going for the immersion of a Godess Durga idol, police said here today. The incident took place yesterday evening when Vishnu (18) fell from the tractor-trolley and was seriously injured, they said. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died during treatment, the police officials added.

Woman sets children ablaze, commits suicide — police
Jaipur, Oct. 1 (PTI): A 27-year-old woman allegedly set her two children afire and then immolated herself today in Manpura village in Churu district, police said. According to officials at the Rajgarh police station, the woman took the extreme step due to a domestic dispute.
The deceased were identified as Sunita Jat, her daughter Sonu (5) and son Sandeep (3). While both the children succumbed to injuries on the spot, the woman died while undergoing treatment at a hospital, they said. The bodies have been kept at a government hospital in Rajgarh and will be handed over to family members after post- mortem, the police officials said.

BJP forms disciplinary committees for J and K
Jammu, Oct. 1 (PTI): The state BJP today constituted separate disciplinary committees for Jammu and Kashmir region to ensure “activist satisfaction and deeper working of the organisation in the state. The committees were formed at a meeting in consultation with national vice president and state incharge Avinash Rai Khanna to regularise the party affairs by attending to the grievances of the party leaders and activists in a constructive atmosphere, BJP state president Sat Sharma said here. The Jammu region disciplinary committee would include Shiv Kumar Gupta, Som Raj Khajuria, N D Rajwal, Vijay Sharma and Parimoksh Seth as its members, he said.
