USSC condemns murder of policeman

DIMAPUR — The United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) has condemned the heinous murder of Soyimkumba Ao, a policeman, allegedly by five individuals who attempted to disguise the crime as a suicide. “At a time when the community is striving for peaceful coexistence, such a barbaric and malevolent act undermines the collective aspirations of the people and must be unequivocally condemned by all right-thinking citizens,” the USSC said in a condemnation note. The conference commended the Tuensang Police for their diligent efforts in solving the challenging murder case after nearly three months of persistent investigation. “We demand that justice be delivered swiftly and without compromise,” it added.

Dimapur HoDs asked to attend review meeting

DIMAPUR — Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, has directed all district heads of departments to attend the state-level review meeting with Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram, on October 15 without fail. In an order issued on Monday, the DC informed that the meeting would be held at the DC office, Dimapur, at 10 am.

BJP Mokokchung appoints new district GS

DIMAPUR — Tiameren Longchar has been appointed as the district general secretary of BJP Mokokchung, effective October 14. An update from the party stated that the appointment order was officially issued by S Bendang Aier, president of BJP Mokokchung district, in the presence of Meyisupong, district vice president, and Koridang, incharge, along with other officials.

Drugs worth INR 31.49 lakh destroyed in Wokha

DIMAPUR — Drugs worth INR 31,49,800 were destroyed at the Wokha Town Council dumping site on Monday. The destroyed drugs were seized on different occasions between 2020 and 2022, relating to 15 cases registered under Wokha Police Station, a DIPR report stated. The destruction was carried out in the presence of SP Wokha Aotula T Imchen, SDPO Wokha, EAC (Judicial), prosecuting inspector, and staff. 

KPC mourns demise of former member

DIMAPUR — The Kohima Press Club (KPC) mourned the demise of its well-wisher and former member, Duosanyü Stephen Keditsu, who passed away on October 13 in Kohima after a prolonged illness. In a condolence note, the club said that Keditsu was the brain behind NM Cable Network—one of the first major cable television networks in Kohima. Offering condolences to the bereaved family and his sons, Thepfüvilie Apisü Keditsu and Neitho Keditsu, who are active members of KPC, the club said that in his passing, the members have lost a father figure and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.

NCC training camp underway at Sainik School

DIMAPUR — A 10-day Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-72) is underway at Sainik School Punglwa, Nagaland. It commenced on 11 October, with 177 cadets from St. Joseph College, Jakhama; Tetso College, Dimapur; Dimapur Government College; Peren Government College; and Modern College, Piphema, participating, according to a press release. The camp was inaugurated by Lt. Col. Amit Chaudhary. Addressing the cadets on the occasion, he emphasised the importance of fostering teamwork, discipline, and leadership among participants. The cadets are undergoing vigorous training as per the NCC curriculum, which includes drill, firing, map reading, camp sitting, and first aid. Sports and cultural events are also planned.

Three arrested in Mon with pistol, extortion slips

DIMAPUR — Assam Rifles and Nagaland Police have apprehended three individuals in Mon town who were found in possession of a pistol and extortion-related slips. According to an update, acting on specific intelligence regarding the movement of cadres in Mon town, Assam Rifles and Nagaland Police jointly established a mobile vehicle check post on October 12. During the vehicle checks, troops stopped a Maruti Suzuki Alto car, apprehending a cadre of NSCN (KYA) along with two other individuals. The authorities seized one 7.65mm pistol, ammunition, and extortion-related slips and documents. The apprehended individuals have been handed over to Nagaland Police.

KCBCK Youth Ministry organises spiritual retreat

DIMAPUR — The Kuzhami Chakhesang Baptist Church Kohima (KCBCK) Youth Ministry organised a prayer adventure camp from October 11 to 13 at The Track UBC Adventure Camp site, Kiruphema. The camp, held on the theme “Mapu Kohile” Chehlero 91:15 (Psalm 91:15), brought together participants for a weekend of spiritual enrichment, adventure, and bonding, stated a press release. The speakers included Mego Chüsi, lead pastor of Ministers’ Hill Baptist Church Kohima; Rev. Niekko Mero, senior pastor of KCBCK; Wewuü Kapfo, pastor of the women’s ministry at KCBCK; and Krovielhu Keretsu and his wife.
