Nagaland’s weekly Covid-19 positivity rate dips to 2.1%

Dimapur, Sep. 2 (EMN): The Covid-19 situation in the state has improved with the weekly positivity rate remaining below 5% for last seven consecutive weeks.

In the week ending October 1, Nagaland recorded 180 Covid cases, down from 305 in the previous week, and deaths too decreased from eight to five with Dimapur registering four fatalities and Mokokchung one, according to weekly data provided by the department of Health and Family Welfare.

This brought down the weekly sample positivity rate to 2.1% from 3% recorded in the previous week. As many as 8,627 samples were tested in the past week.

The weekly bulletin from the Health department informed that all the districts in the state reported a decline in Covid cases in the last week.

However, the proportion of new cases among the travellers increased from 5% to 11% in the last three weeks.

Out of the total cases recorded last week, 136 (76%) were via self and random test, travellers 19 (11%), traced contacts- 13 (7%), security personnel- 7 (4%) and frontline workers- 5 (3%).

The update also informed that 25 new Covid-19 hospital admissions – 11 in Dimapur, eight in Kohima, and six in other districts — were registered during the week, compared to 55 in the previous week. “This is the lowest weekly admission since May 2021,” it stated.

As many as 10.63 lakh doses of vaccines have been administered in the state so far with Dimapur topping in coverage of eligible beneficiaries, followed by Kohima; while Kiphire and Peren are among the worst performing districts in terms of vaccination.

The monthly Covid-19 situation in the state is showing a decreasing trend over the last few months. This year, the state’s positivity rate in January was 3.6%, 2% in February, 2.3% in March and 15.5% in April, before peaking in May at 17%. It was downhill thereafter with positivity rate dipping to 10.3% in June, 7.1% in July, 3.9% in August and 2.3% in September.

Covid situation in Northeast

Among the north-eastern states, Mizoram has highest active cases with 16,416 as on October 1, followed by Assam with 4404, Manipur- 2263, Meghalaya- 1619, Sikkim- 611, Arunachal Pradesh- 419, Nagaland- 347 and Tripura- 239.

In terms of deaths registered till October 1, Assam has registered 5873 fatalities, followed by Manipur with 1855, Meghalaya- 1404, Tripura- 813, Nagaland- 651, Sikkim- 387, Mizoram- 310, and Arunachal Pradesh- 276.
