Nagaland Wrestling Association to host open wrestling championship
Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) on Thursday informed that the 14th NWA Open Wrestling and 1st Belt Wrestling Championship would be held at State Stadium near Dimapur Government College (DGC) on March 17 and 18.
This was announced by NWA president, Dr. Hiabe Zeliang, in the presence of its general secretary, Vilekho Bio, and other NWA officials in its office in Kohima.
It was informed that the event would be hosted by the Zeliang Wrestling Association (ZWA) and managed by Kuda Village Council (KVC).
The organisers informed that the 1st belt wrestling would be held for 11 categories (7 for men and 4 for women) on March 17. The different categories for men included 49 kg, 54 kg, 59 kg, 65 kg, 76 kg, 85 kg and 100+ kg, while for the women, the contest would be held on 49kKg, 50 kg, 53 kg and 63 kg.
In all the categories, the first position holders would receive cash prize of INR 10,000, while the second winner would receive INR 7000 and the third winner win cash prize of INR 5000.
NWA informed that the event would feature all the champions of the NWA- Naga Wrestling Championship, International Hornbill Naga Wrestling Championship and Champions of Traditional Belt Wrestling Championship.
Dr. Hiabe Zeliang exuded confidence that most of the wrestlers would win in national belt wrestling championship as they have their record in the past.
NWA has extended invitation to all the Naga tribes to come and participate and also to join the NWA in promotion of ‘Naga style wrestling.’
It was formed that invitation was also extended to All India Traditional Wrestling and Pankration Federation (AITWPF) officials for their participation.
